A fruitless journey for Ashford to South Park for their final pre-season match on Saturday saw the teams leaving the field after 40 minutes due to lightning and torrential rain.  On a most unusual August day weather wise, the match started in perfect conditions under warm sunshine bit there was a massive deterioration and whilst after the enforced break, the sun came out again, the referee abandoned the match due to concerns about the pitch.

It was one of those things.  The first half had seen Ashford far from their best, with Tyler Tobin by far the busier of the keepers but he could not keep out a 24th minute strike by the home side, that gave them a deserved lead at the time.  As half-time approached, there were signs that the visitors were settling down, suddenly enjoying greater possession but we will never know what the second half might have brought.

Ashford now have a break prior to their opening league match away to Cambridge City next Saturday.  There will be more on that later in the week but it should be noted that Cambridge are playing their home matches at St. Ives FC and not at Cambridge.
