The joys of the FA Cup returned to The Robert Parker Stadium today and with both side having a good start to the season the game had potential to be a cracker, Ashford started with intent and took the game to the visitors from the start, the tone was maybe set as early as the 10th minute as the visitors started to show their frustrations conceding free kicks for cynical fouls. The referee to his credit gave the visitor every chance before brandishing any cards. Ashford continued to play their way with a slide rule pass from skipper Russell Canderton found bitmead one on one with Carl Tasker and there was only ever going to be one outcome. One nil Ashford which could have easily been doubled but for a brilliant reflex save from Tasker to deny Bitmead.
The visitors found the equaliser with a deflection which wrong footed Ashford keeper Tyler Tobin to level the scores, Berkhamsted now looking for the second had several chances but could not find away past Tobin. With the scores level at the break it was all to play for but what happened next was unbelievable, The away side lost their discipline, their bench instead of calming the situation added fuel to the fire, the referee had to be strong and he was having to dismiss one for and incident where a hand was raised to Candertons face which also resulted in the dismissal one of the visitors coaching staff. Then there was an incident involving home keeper Tobin for an alledged two footed lunge but with no player within two yards of him the ball was clearly all he was concentrating on and dealt with it accordingly and was shown a yellow and nothing shown for the afters which clearly left Tobin in some pain. Then came the third Red for and elbow with the intent of causing damage as Tobin claimed a high ball was poleaxed . Ashford responded with the third goal to secure the tie. Names of dismissals left of purposely.
