Ashford continued their progression here tonight against a very useful Rugby Town, from the start Ashford where very much on the front foot and Rugby looked shell shocked at the home sides approach. Most sides have come to the RPS of late knowing they are more than likely to go home with all three points. Well a shock was in place for one of the league’s high fliers whom clearly had not taken our results of late seriously as the boy’s new found form and unity put pay to a joyful coach ride home. Yes we rode our luck at times but that’s football. Conor Moody & Rhys Price up top have been fantastic for us and they never let us down tonight, the visitors back line will know they have been in a game and will learn that you never take league position for granted. Tyler Tobin in the Ashford goal was excellent albeit after a rather poor goal conceded early in the first half, but that only enhanced his determination and confidence for the remainder of the game. Weighty was his usual self marshalling in midfield and last ditch defending along with Russ Canderton and the no nonsense Mullan. After the break Ashford set about their task well and did not disappoint the crowd and when Jack Mullan levelled the score we could have gone on to Win it but equally so could have Rugby but for an outstanding triple save from Tobin late in the second half. Rugby should not feel to displeased with a point, for the neutral this game was full of entertainment . The message is now clear to all this young side is good enough and will continue to improve under the new Coaching methods and there will be what some would call “shock results” words that are not to be used in this part of Middlesex as there are no shocks just expectations from all concerned. You can and will do this as a Team.
